Association for Rural Development in Yilong (ARDY) held a second council meeting on June 4th. Honorary President Zhang SiZhe, Director Li WanChen, and Gao XiangJun along with non-voting members Li ShiBin, Wang YingFu, and Rao Bo attended the meeting. Secretary General Gao XiangJun informed the members of the work status for the months from January to May 2008: (1) the results from the evaluations conducted by a group of experts from India on ARDY; (2) the work plans for the rest of 2008; (3) the formulations of work descriptions; and, (4) whether not to become a microfinance business.
During open forum, President Zhang SiZhe and Director Li WanChen expressed satisfaction for the results achieved so far in 2008. They also agreed to the new work descriptions but pointed out some areas that were lacking.
Furthermore, the meeting included a serious discussion on the 2008 article “Guidance to Microfinance Companies” written by the China Banking Regulatory Commission and the People's Bank of China. ARDY hopes to work hard to become a successful microfinance company, in order to provide more services to poor farmers.
